Why We Partner With Spirol

SPIROL is a leading expert in fastening, joining and assembly. They are our primary choice for high quality slotted pins, coiled pins and threaded inserts for plastics.

SPIROL pins and inserts improve the quality of your assembly, extend the life of your products and reduce your total manufacturing costs.

SPIROL's products can be found in green technology applications, gas-powered and electric vehicles, airplanes, helicopters, agricultural equipment, tractor trailers, office furniture, consumer appliances, power tools, garden equipment, medical devices and any other assembly that can be mechanically fastened together.

Prospect Fastener values its partnership with SPIROL because they foster a culture of innovation, hard work, attention to detail and continuous improvement. They put the customer first without compromising good business practices and their core values.

We look forward to distributing SPIROL products for many years to come, and will continue leveraging their expertise and engineering knowhow to add value for our customers.

Coiled Spring Pins

Otherwise known as Spiral Pins, Coil Pins, Roll Pins or simply Spring Pins, SPIROL offers Coiled Spring Pins in both inch and metric sizes in a variety of materials and finishes from 0.8mm / .031” (1/32) in diameter up to 20mm / .750” (3/4) in diameter.

Coiled Pins are self-retaining fasteners achieved by radial tension applied against the hole wall, and they are the only press-fit pins designed to remain flexible after installation. More than fasteners, SPIROL Coiled Pins are shock-absorbing elements that are integral, active components of a total assembly.

Slotted Spring Pins

SPIROL offers Slotted Spring Pins in both metric and inch sizes ranging in diameter from 1.5mm / .062” (1/16”) to 12mm / .500” (1/2”) in high carbon, nickel stainless steel and chrome stainless steel.

The primary spring action of the Slotted Pin is focused on the area opposite the slot as the two halves of the pin compress during installation. Once installed, the pin applies continuous pressure towards the sides of the hole wall. This flexibility allows Slotted Pins to accommodate wider hole tolerances than rigid Solid Pins which results in reduced manufacturing costs of the component.

Threaded Inserts for Plastics

Threaded Inserts for Plastics provide reusable threads and preserve the bolted joint integrity for the life of the application. Since an Insert is generally twice the diameter of a screw, the shear surface is increased fourfold, thereby significantly enhancing the load carrying ability of the bolted plastic joint as compared to one without the use of a metal Threaded Insert. Threaded Inserts for Plastics also allow the appropriate installation torque to be applied to the screw without stripping the threads that would otherwise occur if the screw was installed directly into the plastic. In addition, the metal thread of an Insert provides permanent creep resistance for the entire load path of the thread to prevent loosening and maintain a durable tightly threaded connection.

Spirol's History

SPIROL was co-founded in 1948 (then called Connecticut Engineering and Manufacturing Company) by Herman J. Koehl, Hans A. Prym, and Walther G. von Conta. After 75 years, the families of the 3 founding members are all still intimately involved with the company, with two serving as Directors on the Board.

Serving as Chairman of SPIROL International Holding Corporation since his appointment in 1969, Hans H. Koehl (Herman’s son) retired from active management of the company in 2004 after 45 of dedicated service. Hans’ vision, dedication, and passion led to the transformation of SPIROL from being a small, family-owned business in Northeast Connecticut into a world-renowned manufacturing company with locations on 4 continents and in 13 countries.

Jeffrey F. Koehl (Hans’s son) joined the company in 1997, and has been serving as Chairman and CEO since his appointment in 2010. Under Jeff’s direction, SPIROL has achieved profound success and growth including the establishment of numerous subsidiaries as well as the recent acquisition of Ford Aerospace in South Shields, England.

SPIROL’s production capabilities cover a wide variety of modern processes spanning proprietary roll-form technology and stamping, 4-slides, lasers, CNC machining, and Swiss multi-spindle screw machines. They perform heat treating and finishing processes in-house to ensure consistent quality.
